Brazil

Since late 2008, our research on Brazil has concentrated on evaluating the impact that the escalation of the global financial crisis has had on the Brazilian economy. Our analysis builds on previous work we have done on key sectors of the economy, including agriculture, biofuels, oil and gas, electricity and consumer spending.

In addition to our regular macroeconomic analysis, we will continue to assess how the crisis is affecting key sectors of the economy, exemplified in our recent reports such as Credit crunch exacerbates challenges for Brazilian agriculture. Brazil’s potential as a global biofuels supplier will also receive our constant attention through quarterly updates of the sector. We will also be closely monitoring the political climate for biofuels in the US, EU and Japan, assessing the impact that the current crisis will have on government policy in key importing nations.

With the 2010 elections rapidly approaching, we will scrutinize changes in policy by the Lula administration, particularly those that could compromise Brazil’s fiscal situation. We will also continue our extensive coverage of Brazil’s growing class of consumers, evaluating those sectors that will see the strongest growth during the current crisis.
