Political reform – the Iranian way
In April Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei criticized US-manufactured cars in a speech marking Labour Day in Iran. American cars, he said, are shoddily made, energy inefficient and unpopular even with US consumers. The customs authorities got the message. They quickly issued a regulation banning US car imports and turned back a shipment of 200 Chevrolets en route from South Korea.
While this episode provoked wry amusement in Iran, it illustrates the kind of risk that worries foreign...
