Overview

One of the dominant themes of EM investing has long been that economic growth would lift broad swathes of the population up into the middle classes, thus generating new demand for all types of consumption goods. As a result, consumer-focused stocks have been favourites among many investors and valuations have typically risen to relatively high levels.

Despite the seeming attractiveness of this investment theme, investors have become less and less enamoured of EM equities...
