Overview

The expiry of the sweeteners accorded to China when it joined the WTO in 2001 means the People's Republic is now expected to behave as a fully-fledged member of the organisation, allowing full access to its markets (with very few exceptions). In general, there has been reasonable progress, but discordant voices are emerging that could threaten the deepening and widening of the process.
