Overview

China's textile industry, sitting firmly near the top of the list of high-achieving sectors, has boomed since China's WTO accession in 2001, and all the more so since the 2005 abolition of global trade quotas. But some of its early advantages are disappearing or declining - sufficient domestic cotton production, export subsidies, and a malleable, cheap labour force.
