China refocuses on mechanized farming

Overview

China’s agricultural output has increased in the last decade thanks largely to good weather conditions. However, there is the risk that food supply will fall short of the rising demand for higher protein diets propelled by increased disposable incomes and the rush to urbanization. This poses potential risks to social stability in a country that has grown used to better food standards and where the growing urban population wants a more varied diet than its rural counterparts.
