Brazil: Waiting for Janot

Overview

Following the contentious 4-3 decision by Brazil’s highest electoral court (TSE) last Friday to absolve the Dilma-Temer ticket of illegal campaign financing in the 2014 presidential race, the political shelf life of the Temer government has been extended once again. That it is now using this respite to ensure its survival rather than to pass unpopular reforms should not come as any surprise; but there will be a negative impact on both the economy and the fiscal reform agenda....
