Brazil: Temer fights to stay in power, while Maia gains traction

Overview

Despite the passage on Tuesday of the labour reform – the first major structural reform passed in 2017 – the administration had little time to celebrate as it scrambled to cobble together a majority in the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ), which ultimately voted against moving ahead with the corruption investigation. His next challenge will be to hold the full floor vote by Monday, in an effort to reduce the risk that more dirt will surface during the recess....
