Brazil: Political turmoil overshadows legislative victories

Acting President Michel Temer chalked up two small victories in the legislature this week with the confirmation of former Itaú Unibanco Chief Economist Ilan Goldfajn as the new Banco Central President and with the passage in the Lower House of a constitutional amendment that allows the government to freely allocate 30 per cent of its revenues from federal taxes until the end of 2023.
