Brazil’s new Finance Minister Joaquim Levy has pleased the market with a welcome return to orthodox macroeconomic policy since he took office on 5 January. In the three weeks since he has been in charge, he has put his foot down on more Treasury bailouts for the power sector, announced a series of tax hikes to increase government revenues and, equally important, stayed free from public conflict with President Dilma Rousseff.
