Private sector leads port modernisation

Overview

The expansion of Brazil's seaport capacity has not kept up with demand from the booming export sector. Over the past decade, the private sector has invested in private port terminals, which have helped ease some of the bottleneck pressure.

Despite investments by the private sector, the state and federal government still have control over public areas of the ports and are responsible for maintaining access to ports and dredging channels, areas which have been neglected. Growing...
