Bureaucratic snags highlight challenges for road concessions

Overview

Following a series of delays caused primarily by inefficient government bureaucracy, winners of the October 2007 federal toll road concession auction have petitioned Brazil’s highway concessions regulator for government compensation for lost revenues. Expected in early 2010, the regulator’s decision will set an important precedent for future road concession auctions in the run-up to the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics.
