Brazil tunes in to pay TV

Overview

Pay television was introduced to Brazil in the late 1980s amid expectations that as many as 15 million people would sign up for services immediately. Nearly 20 years later these initial projections have yet to be achieved because of low disposable incomes and the fact that the large majority of Brazilians are satisfied with the programming available on free TV channels.
